London, 16th October 2018 – Gearhouse Broadcast, the Gravity Media-owned supplier of technical facilities, crew and services has enlisted the help of broadcast workflow specialists, Magenta, to become IP-ready.
Magenta worked with Gearhouse to transition its fleet of Flyaways to be IP-ready. This included reviewing the existing fleet of Flyaways and typical use cases, defining the unique requirements, and recommending the right solutions to meet those. Once the solutions were selected, Magenta managed the implementation, and ensured a smooth and error-free transition to the IP-ready Flyaways.
Renowned for its innovative Flyaway systems, Gearhouse was keen to ensure it could offer its customers the additional flexibility and scalability that comes with IP workflows. The company’s Flyaways are regularly used in international broadcast centres, technical operations centres, production control rooms, edit suites, studios, ENG facilities and for remote productions around the world.
The portable productions solutions can be used with either an SDI, IP, or hybrid backbone, depending on customer requirements and preferences.

“IP delivers huge benefits in terms of flexibility, scalability, and cost efficiency. It was important to us to embrace IP so that our customers can maximise that potential. At the same time, we knew we wanted to work with a partner that understood media workflows and the transition to IP.”

Pete Newton

Technical Director, Gravity Media

Gearhouse is using IQUCP25 and IQUCP50 edge cards and MV-820-IP multiviewers from Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, as well as Cisco’s Nexus 9000 switch fabric. This investment in IP technology follows on from a series of major 4K equipment purchases made by Gearhouse in 2018.

“Gearhouse is continually looking to invest in innovative technology to remain at the forefront of video capture and delivery. Video companies are beginning to realise the huge potential of IP and/or hybrid workflows for maximising efficiency and reducing costs. They are also realising that IP doesn’t mean a reduction in quality.”
