IBC – it’s the landmark of the satellite and broadcast industry calendar. Last year was my first time at the show, and I was blown away by the magnitude of it. Most of our clients attend annually, and it was a great experience to be able to put the whole industry into perspective. Luckily, despite the scale, it was impossible to get lost or overwhelmed as Helen, (who now has 14 IBCs under her belt) was showing us around and teaching us the ropes!
I am going to be headed back to the show again this year, and I already can’t wait to touch down in Amsterdam and join the crowds in the RAI. My first IBC? I remember it being everything I had expected it to be, and more. Since I started working here back in February last year people kept mentioning IBC, and how to prepare for it. The main tip being comfy shoes of course! I have spent lots of time trying to find the perfect pair of shoes in preparation (honestly, you can’t underestimate how hard those floors are!).
The show itself was everything that everyone had said it would be. Huge, but also very thrilling to get to witness the development of the industry all under one roof. Everywhere you look there is an innovative product or solution, and it is no surprise that the broadcast industry is one of the most enjoyed by consumers.
This year I am definitely going in with a deeper understanding of the significance of international shows such as IBC. It is a landmark in the calendar for a reason, and you can’t underestimate exactly how beneficial the months of prep and long days during the show are. The sheer prowess of having a worldwide industry in one city is insurmountable. The potential benefits to be leveraged from the show are huge; from meetings with journalists to discuss how your company is driving the industry into new landscapes, to partner discussions over lunch; the place is literally buzzing with energy.
The attendance alone shows that the entire industry can recognise the benefits, and the sore feet are forgotten once the long weekend is over! I cannot wait to get back in amongst it all. Especially after months of working with our clients to generate as much worth from the event as we possibly can. It is always exciting to see everything that you have all been working so hard for come to life! If you want to check out what our clients are up to at the show, click here.
